People can give you a lot of things
Their love, their support, their hate.
I don’t realise how much I rely on it
Till it dissipates
They lifted me on their shoulders
When I was the only one.
Then dropping me to lift another
When someone better comes.
The saddest part is
I’ve worked for it my whole life.
But some are just born with talent
That can whisk away my spotlight.
They don’t know how it feels,
To be shadowed by a towering bud.
When I was the flower; growing forever,
Yet insignificant enough to be unconsciously shunned.
How can I put my failure in words?
When that’s what I’m expected to do.
They think it’s easy even when
I’m being overpowered by you.
A few words of praise, all fake to the bone.
I must seem like nothing compared to her.
I can feel the void in the ink
As I scratch away my pains.
But a scar never does fade, does it?
It flows like poison in your veins.
The ineptitude seeps through my fingers
I can’t do what she does,
I can’t stand by watching her rise,
Choking in her successful dust.
None of them will understand
They’ll feed me lies, saying I’m the talented one.
How it hurts, doesn’t it?
To be surrounded by all,
Yet surrounded by none.

Oh wow wow wow… That hit me really HARD! Like, omg that feeling, you captured it SO WELL! I think this is my favourite of yours so far
P.S. This is not me feeding you lies, it’s the absolutely obvious truth 🙂
