Poet’s Note: This is sort of a “sequel” to my recent poem ‘Failure In Words’. I wrote this poem for a very special friend who helped me see that I can do anything I set my mind to. She’s been my pillar of support since seven years, from what started as a rocky friendship turned into a lifelong one. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me, and I hope that you love the poem π Check out her blog here: https://greyanyasworld.wordpress.com/
I’ve often heard the burden we bear
Weighs a lot lighter when we share
With someone we trust, who’s always there
To listen to you rant when you’re in despair.
In my case, it’s a lifelong friend
Who’s willing to lend a shoulder till the end
Carrying the pain without a request
Always pointing me to the direction that’s best.
For 7 years, and more to come,
Two souls that could easily be called one.
Undying patience, I’m learning lessons you’ve taught,
Telling me that if she’s good, it doesn’t mean I’m not.
I’m told words flow freely when you write from your heart.
You don’t play friend, you play a sister’s part.
I couldn’t have realised without your help
It wasn’t her holding me back, it was myself.
So with these words, I say “Thank you.”
For all the things you discreetly do.
I’ve always known how much you value,
But now I hope that you do, too.
