One of the many tourist attractions in Hyderabad is the Golconda Fort, the word ‘Golkonda’ meaning ‘shepherd’s hill’ in Telugu. The Golconda Fort is so enchanting that it can take your breath away. Originally known as Mankal, it was first built by the mighty rulers of the Kakatiya dynasty.
As beautiful as the Red Fort and as grand as the Hawa Mahal, this spectacular fort consists of innumerable hallways, temples, mosques etc. It is said that if one claps at a certain place below the dome, it can be heard at the highest point of the fort, which is nearly a kilometre away! There is also a belief that there is a secret tunnel hidden in the fort which leads all the way to Charminar.
Golconda Fort has a very interesting history, which the tour guides explain in an attention-grabbing manner. It has around 365 steps and climbing them is not easy, but the view from the top is absolutely worth it. From the top, you can see the whole city of Hyderabad, which will leave you mesmerized by its beauty.
As amazing as it seems, it only gets better. Rumours say that the souls of the dead kings still haunt the hallways in the nights, and more than one person can give you proof…
If you ever get a chance to visit this historical place, don’t miss it. Because what you will experience will definitely be worth climbing 365 steps!
