When you are young, you wish to know of what you don’t understand,
Because you’re so tired of being told you can’t have what you want to have.
It eats you up on the inside as you wish and wish to grow old,
But when you’re wise, you miss the life when some things were left untold.
When you are young, you wish to be loved- to experience it for yourself.
So to get what you’re dreaming of, you make it up in your head.
Only, when it doesn’t come true in life, it makes you want to cry,
But when you are wise, you know that love is only a matter of time.
When you are young, what people say can pierce you to the bone.
It sometimes leaves you wondering if their hearts are made of stone.
You never knew that words could wound till you ended up with scars.
But when you are wise, you accept that people will always be what they are.
When you are young, you hate the mirror simply because of the view.
And with your guard always up, even honest words don’t seem like they’re true.
You gaze at a face full of imperfections, and it hurts a little more each time,
But when you are wise, you learn to see beyond what one calls a pretty smile.
When you are young, every mistake you’ve sworn to be your last.
But they just keep on piling up till you’re ashamed of your past.
Guilt and regret tear you apart until your gut feels numb and hollow,
But when you are wise, you can tell the difference between yesterday and tomorrow.
When you are young, your troubles feel like they’re the end of the world,
So you try to compare them with everyone else’s, but it only makes you feel worse.
You envy those who have it all, who seem to lead an easy life-
But when you are wise, you know that people hide their problems behind their pride.
When you are young, you never stop to wonder, to see the world from another pair of eyes.
You’re too caught up in trying to survive the rollercoaster known as ‘life’.
But take a pause and a minute to ponder, life is patient enough to wait.
And when you are wise, I hope someday you’ll look back to these words, and relate.
