Poet’s Note: Another free verse! But this one is about someone very close to me, and how she is battling depression bravely…
Perhaps it is easy to talk about change,
When you’re not the one bearing the burden,
Of knowing the comforting pillars that keep your world upright,
Will crumble to dust in your very own hands.
To give way to a new beginning, a “new start”.
So easy to say, so not to watch.
The sturdy ground will become your sky,
And the clouds try vainly to cushion your fall.
Only, you slip through their grasp like sand.
As you are falling, falling, falling,
Defying all the usual gravitational laws.
So different from normality, isn’t it?
Who knew the sun’s rays could be so blue?
Swirling around you like a defensive shield,
Keeping all things bad out,
And all things good too.
You are in charge of that barrier, only
You don’t know the truth.
It is good to have your guard up in uncharted territory,
But is it worth all this desolating gloom?
When someone says change is hard,
They are ignorant to their understatement.
Unless they have fallen, fallen, fallen too.
Into a chasm that can only vaguely be called depression.
