Poet’s Note: To all the amazing teachers out there, this one is for you! Happy Teacher’s Day (three days later, but just as heart-warming😊).
Monday morning blues is a phrase commonly heard,
And is brought to life by sleep-walking teens whose heads are caught in a whirl,
Of dreams of day and dreams of night, all squeezed into one exhausted mind.
And in this raging storm of chaos, you still manage to bring out a smile.
We begin the otherwise dreary day with touches of humour and mirth.
Little bursts of amusement in between valuable knowledge’s birth.
How, I wonder, do you do it? Stay jaunty throughout the day?
Engaging us in lively conversation, because that’s the only way.
As the day drags itself on, you never let us feel its pain.
Trying to make us understand even though we sometimes drive you insane.
Being a student is hard, but being a teacher is unfathomably harder,
And as ever big our rebelling nature may be, our love for you is much, much larger.
So with these words come wishes that mean more than you could imagine,
Because in this world of screens and masks, it’s the little things that matter;
Like what you do for us – our gratitude cannot be measured,
Because you’re not just a teacher and a mentor and a guide,
You’re a friend and an inspiration and a true wonder in our eyes.
