Every year, our school has this particular week called ‘The Joy of Giving Week’. Each student from grades 4, 5 and 6 had made a card for the Support Staff of the school, and the students of grade 6 had to hand them out. Each one of us was given around 5 to 6 cards, which we had to distribute among the Support Staff.
In the end, I had two cards left, so I decided to give them to my bus Didi and the driver. When I boarded the bus, I gave one card to Didi, and she thanked me. I kept my bag in my seat and headed to the front of the bus. I gave the second card to the driver. He also thanked me, along with a grateful smile. I felt very happy that I had made at least two people smile that day.
The following day, I boarded the bus and sat with my friends. Suddenly, my glance fell upon the driver’s seat. In front of the seat was the same card I had given my driver the previous day. He had stuck it there so that he could see it every day, and feel that he was appreciated. The moment I saw the card, the sight had touched my heart. I had given him the card to make him feel happy, but I never thought that seeing that card would make me feel happy too.
That day, I learnt how much joy can giving bring, not only to that receiver, but also the giver.
